The first question I always get…

“What side of the island creates the most income?” Then I answer “All sides create good income.” Then I get the response… “I heard the south side is the best and makes the most income’. Then I think okay why did you ask.

I’ve come to the conclusion that everyone not from Kauai thinks Poipu is the best place to stay on Kauai. Therefore if people also looking to vacation on Kauai also think its the best then really Poipu must be making the best income.

Poipu is definitely known as the sunniest place on Kauai and probably has the least amount of rain not including the west side of the island where we don’t have as many vacation rental condos.

Oceanfront condos in Poipu

When looking for a vacation rental condo on Kauai in general people will be willing to pay more for an oceanfront/view unit. Why? Because they don’t get to the ocean everyday so they want to soak in the ocean as much as possible during their stay.

However oceanfront condos do come with a higher price tag.

Most of the oceanfront condos in Poipu are located from the round about north to the Hyatt. The round about and west has one other oceanfront condo project. I’m not including hotels in this list rather condominium projects that individuals are able to purchase. Below I’m listing oceanfront condos on Kauai along with a quick description of the condo project.

Koloa Landing – Amenities! If you are looking for a condo project with large amenities this is the project for you. Including large pool and jacuzzi and on site restaurant and spa. Koloa Landing is a resort so it crowded with people and have a very resort fee. This project is fairly new for Kauai standards and the rooms are upgraded.

Kiahuna Plantation – Kiahuna Plantation are older plantation style units that are Leasehold. These units do not have AC. Most of the units there are one bedrooms. There is an onsite restaurant. Kiahuna itsself does not have many amenities however guests are allowed to use Poipu Beach Athletic club which is right across the street. Which has a gym, pool, hot tub and restaurant.

Makahuena at Poipu – Is an older project located on the northern side of Poipu. Many of these units have great ocean views however its father than most condos from a swimmable beach. Which still is not that far a really quick drive. Makahuena has a pool and hot tub. Pets are also allowed here.

Poipu Shores – Poipu Shores is an oceanfront condo project north of Poipu Beach. Within walking distance to Poipu Beach. This is a smaller complex which is nice. Views are beautiful and their pool is located right on the ocean.

Sunset Kahili – This is a leasehold project right next to Poipu Shores. Leases are up in 2042.

Poipu Kapili – Is a beautiful project. The devolper really put thought into designing the interior of these units. There is a road that runs in front of the project however it does not obstruct the beautiful ocean views. Sheraton beach is within walking distance for swimming.

Kuhio Shores – Kuhio shores is located to the west of the round about. Located right next to the beach house restaurant. There is also a great beach that is great for snorkeling and walking distance to another great beach the Kukuiula boat harbor.

Why people love staying in Poipu

People love to stay in Poipu Kauai because of the year around sunny weather and beaches. Poipu is also a very central location. Very close to Lihue town where the airport is located and in the middle of the east, north and west sides of the island.

There are also a variety of restaurants and shops to enjoy. Most of the shops and restaurants have opened up in Poipu. There are fancier restaurants at the shops at Kukuiula and other eateries including food trucks. Two grocery stores and a CVS are located in Koloa and Poipu. There is also a farmers market every Wednesday from 3:30-5pm.

There is also lots to do! Including going to the beach. I know most people on vacation are totally ok with just going to the beach everyday and not really exploring. Activities like zip lining. Hiking the Mahaulepu trail hike. Visiting sites like spouting horn. Visiting Allerton Gardens. Going walking there are lots of sidewalks to enjoy a morning or afternoon walk. Going to the spa at Anara spa or Koloa landing spa and don’t forget to watch the sunset.
