The Lihue area encompasses the areas of Puhi, Lihue town, Nawiliwili, Niumalu and Hanamaulu. Lihue is the capital or county seat of Kauai. Most of the Kauai government offices are located here. Wilcox Memorial Hospital and a number of doctor offices can be found in Lihue. Lihue is also home to Kauai’s largest shopping center and big box stores. The main beach in Lihue is Kalapaki Bay. Nawiliwili small boat harbor is located in the bay. Puhi is located at the west end of Lihue and this is where you will find Kauai Community College. Hanamaulu is located at the east end of Lihue. Lihue Proper has two public elementary schools, King Kaumualii, & Wilcox Elementary. Chiefess Kamakahelei is Lihue’s public middle school and Kauai High is Lihue’s public high school. Also located in Lihue is Island School, a private school servicing all grades. Kauai’s main commercial airport is located in Lihue. Lihue is the government, business, medical center, and transportation hub of Kauai. Lihue’s housing consists of a number of residential subdivisions and residential condo projects tailored to its local working population. Residents of Lihue appreciate the short commute time and having all conveniences of a town nearby.
