Kapaa is located on the east side of Kauai in the Kawaihau District. The Kawaihau District is from Wailua river to Anahola. The city of Kapaa includes Wailua, Kapaa Town and Kapahi. Kapaa was originally a pineapple farming community. Now Kapaa town seems to be the latest hot spot on Kauai with the every First Saturday Kapaa art walk. Every first Saturday of the month old Kapaa town hosts an art walk with many craft vendors and food trucks. There is entertainment, and shops and restaurants are open late.

Kapaa is one of the most populated towns on the island. There is a large residential area and also a variety of restaurants, shops, businesses and professional offices. All major schools on the east side of the island are located in Kapaa. These schools include a variety of pre-schools, Kapaa Elementary, Kapaa Middle, Kapaa High School, and St. Catherine School.

Kapaa is also home to many sandy beaches and the popular Kapaa bike path. This path is a 4-mile stretch that runs along the coast and is used for biking, running, walking, and skating.
