Waimea & Kekaha
On the far west end of the island of Kauai you will find Waimea & Kekaha. Formally sugar plantation towns the current economic base is the military (PMRF), seed corn from large Agri-businesses and tourism. Kekaha is home of Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor. Kekaha Elementary School and St Theresa School are located there. Farther west you will find Polihale Beach Park. Located east of Kekaha, Waimea is a larger town then Kekaha. Waimea is known for its annual Waimea Town Celebration. Waimea Canyon Middle School and Waimea High School can be found in town. Waimea boasts the grand canyon of the Pacific aka Waimea Canyon. Up the road Kokee State Park can be enjoyed. Where the west side of the island is known for its sunny skies and dry climate, a trip to the forests of Kokee may require a jacket. The sunset views from the west side are extraordinary. Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) is located in Waimea. Waimea also has grocery stores, doctor offices and a limited amount of stores and restaurants. Residents of Kekaha & Waimea prefer it’s dry & mild weather in a rural community located near the beach. There is only 1 residential condo project in Waimea. Real estate here is mostly residential homes and some vacant lots.
